Halloran Trial May Not Begin Until 2014: Report

Attorneys for councilman, Smith and Tabone will ask for some charges to be dismissed.

Attorneys for Councilman Dan Halloran, R-Whitestone, state Sen. Malcolm Smith, D-Jamaica, and former Queens Republican Party vice chairman Vince Tabone will make motions to dismiss some of the charges in the mayoral race bribery scheme for which they have been accused, NY 1 reported.

The requests will likely result in the trial not beginning until 2014.

Evidence in the case will include undercover video and audio recordings detailing the alleged scheme, in which Halloran is accused of using bribery to get Smith, a Democrat, onto the Republican mayoral ballot.

On Friday, all three defendants made their first court appearance since being charged in the scheme.

“Justice is going to take a long time to get, but once we get there I am sure I will be very happy with the outcome,” Halloran told NY 1.
