Halloran to Host LIRR Forum in Douglaston on July 18

Residents will be able to ask railroad representatives questions during event at Giftalicious.

Councilman Dan Halloran, R-Whitestone, will host a question and answer session with representatives from the Long Island Rail Road's and Little Neck branches at Giftalicious on July 18.

The meeting, which will run from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., is free and open to any Douglaston or Little Neck residents who have questions about anything from cleanliness at LIRR stations to schedules.

"Any question or concern that a commuter might have can be answered," said Steven Stites, a spokesman for the councilman. "The idea is that a lot of people have questions and have to call 311 to get answers. So, we're trying to bring answers to them."

Halloran will be spreading the word about the event at the two stations on Monday and Wednesday mornings.

Stites said the councilman plans to host a similar event in Bayside in early August and another a few weeks later for Auburndale and Flushing.

is located at 40-39 235th St. in Douglaston.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
