Gas Rationing Extended Through Friday

Despite lack of gas lines, mayor extends fuel-saving efforts through holiday.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced on Sunday that the city has extended its odd-even day gas rationing through Friday.

“The odd-even license plate system has worked well and helped to reduce wait times and lines at the pump,” said Bloomberg. “With 30 percent of gas stations still closed and a major travel week coming, I am extending the successful odd-even system on gas and diesel fuel purchases to ensure we do not risk going back to the extreme lines we saw prior to the system being implemented.”

Gas lines were a problem throughout the city in Hurricane Sandy's immediate aftermath. In many areas, the lines stretched for hours. Lines have died down significantly since gas rationing was implemented on Nov. 9.
