Former State Sen. Huntley Recorded Nine Queens, Brooklyn Legislators on Wire: Report

Elected officials were brought to meetings at the home of Queens legislator Shirley Huntley.

This story was written by Matthew Hampton.

The ballad of Shirley Huntley just keeps getting stranger as it was revealed Wednesday that two Queens legislators and another two from Brooklyn were among a group of legislators she recorded in a bid for leniency in her own corruption investigation.

Queens elected officials recorded by Huntley included state Sen. Jose Peralta, D-Corona, and City Councilman Ruben Wills, of southeast Queens.

Brooklyn state Senators Eric Adams and Velmanette Montgomery were two other names among the nine reportedly unsealed Wednesday in court documents.

Huntley reportedly conducted meetings at her home and recorded them to help with other ongoing investigations. She will face sentencing this week after pleading guilty to charges that she embezzled money through a community non-profit.

Adams said Wednesday that he has thus far not been contacted by investigators.

“I believe deeply in transparency and the pursuit of justice — and that is why I committed 20 years of my life to law enforcement. I am more than willing to help with any investigation,” she said.

A call to the district office of Velmanette Montgomery has not been returned.
