Duane Picks Up Labor Endorsement in Race for Halloran's Seat

UAW throws weight behind former state assemblyman in City Council race.

Former state Assemblyman John Duane nabbed an endorsement from the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America in his bid for Councilman Dan Halloran's seat.

Julie Kushner, director of the union for Region 9A, announced Wednesday that the UAW would back Duane in the race.

"John's life work has been devoted to challenging powerful special interests on behalf of working men and women," Kushner said.

Duane will face off in the Democratic primary against Halloran chief of staff Chrissy Voskerichian, Flushing attorney Paul Vallone, long time activist Paul Graziano and Austin Shafran, formerly of Empire State Development.
