• The key race northeast Queens will be watching is the newly created Sixth Congressional District. U.S. Rep. Gary Ackerman, D-Bayside, announced earlier this year that he would not run in the race after . Candidates in the race so far include four Democrats - Assembly members Grace Meng and Rory Lancman, Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley and Bayside doctor Robert Mittman - Republican City Councilman Dan Halloran and the Green Party's Evergreen Chou.

• State Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, will be running for reelection to his northeast Queens seat. Joe Concannon is petitioning for the Republican slot in the race following former Sen. Frank Padavan's decision not to run.

• U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, will , D-N.Y., for her seat. Wendy Long and George Maragos are Gillibrand's other Republican challengers.
