Do You Agree with Supreme Court's Decision to Uphold Obamacare?

Cast your vote in Patch's poll on the court's ruling in favor of the health care law.

In a surprise ruling, the Supreme Court upheld President Barack Obama's health care law this morning in a 5-4 vote.

Conservative Justice John Roberts, who was appointed by former President George W. Bush, was among those who voted to allow the law to stand.

The vote has been called the most siginificant to come before the ruling since the 2000 election between Bush and Al Gore.

Now, Patch wants to know. Do you agree with the court's ruling? Cast your vote in our poll and post your comments in the section provided below.

Max, the NYTimes had an article on the front page today about all the Americans that are crossing into Mexico to receive health care. What does that say about our system? What does it say about our country when our infant mortality rate is so high, when so many people can't afford health care or have been driven into bankruptcy trying to take care of themselves and their loved ones?
Stuart Hersh June 28, 2012 at 09:27 pm
Ruth is a breath of fresh air with her bright and well-reasoned comments. As for Max and any other ill-informed conservatives, condemning things just because President Obama is in favor of them does not make them wrong...or you right.

They don't . That's not what they said.
Arthur J caputo June 28, 2012 at 11:01 pm
As usual ,back in the past, people like you said the world was flat and challenged the new findings. Stop believing the republican lies that try to protect the insurance companies and their ripoff profits. The American people win and the republicans and their rich friends (,insurance companies),lose.Get educated .
max June 29, 2012 at 12:49 am
It tells me where you are comming from when you quote the NY Times. People crossing into Mexico are usually desperate individuals looking for unproven alternative treatments. So tired about hearing the attacks on the rich the next time you need a job try getting employment from a poor person. A liberal is a person whose interests are not at stake at the moment.
Ruth June 29, 2012 at 04:00 am
Individuals who have to go to Mexico must be desperate for any type of affordable health care. They obviously can't get it here .And I would prefer to quote the NY Times rather than Fox News or Murdoch's WSJ. The rich in this country have nothing at stake. They continue to get rich using the roads that the government built, the fire and police department what the government supplies, and when they mess up, like they have in the past the rich have no problem coming to the rest of us with their hands outstretched and accepting corporate welfare that drawfs anything the government has ever given to the poor.

Hey Max, i guess you didn't get enough punishment from the last republican president .Starting an illegal war, Planning and carrying out 9/11, plundering our treasury and giving all the money to Cheney's pals at Hailburton, not to mention the missing 7 billion dollars in Iraq, and the greedy Wall St The bailouts of the Wall St crooks .You hate socialism except when it comes to bailing out WallSt ,using the people's money or the continued taxpayer subsidies to the rich oil companies . The republicans wanting to cut Social Security, Medicare, hospitals, libraries, teachers, police, to make up for the lost revenues, including the lost revenues from the Bush tax cuts for the rich.. Yea, now the rich ,as you give them credit for ,are creating jobs in foreign countries to exploit their labor their so the CEO's can make their million dollar ripoff salaries on the backers of the workers whom they are giving the shaft to. . Your just another ignorant among us that believes the republican BS and supports them against your own interest. I got news for you Max, they are making a fool out of you.and laughing at you as they do it.
Arthur J caputo June 29, 2012 at 10:52 am
Ruth ,don't waste your time explaining to a people who don't have the mental capacity to comprehend what you are saying..They can't see that they are supporting a republican party who could care less about them ,voting against their interest, against themselves. Sad, but they are a danger to our democracy. Same with the German people who voted for Hitler ,believing the BS. Causing Bombs to fall on them with their ignorant vote. Here, in the USA , look what their ignorant vote brought us under crook Bush.Yet , they STILL can't see. They would bring that upon us again.
max June 29, 2012 at 11:06 am
Words of fools signifying nothing!!!! Obviously a bunch of senior citizens with a limited future willing to give up their freedoms for security.
Jo Jo June 29, 2012 at 11:36 am
Max, not having to worry about health care makes us freer and more secure. Imagine losing a job and not having to worry about healthcare as one looks for another job. Also, people often stay in jobs they hate or that make them miserable just for the healthcare. They are not "free". Freedom is being able to leave that job and pursue one that will make them happier without having to worry about healthcare, and in that sense, Canadians are freer than Americans. I know Canadians who cherish their healthcare system because they see what we have to go through. Those who want private health care in Canada and can afford it will buy it, but those who can't afford it at least have an option. Moreover, the people in Canada who wait in line for weeks usually do not have life-threatening conditions. By the way, my late friend, a cancer patient, had to wait three months for an appointment (in NYC) to see her doctor. During that time, the cancer grew and spread to her intestines--the beginning of the end for her. This was not an isolated case. If you are not middle or lower class, you will never understand what we go through. I would rather pay extra taxes so my fellow Americans can have healthcare than pay to bail out corrupt corporations. We all win with a healthier society.

It is the risk taker that usually becomes wealthy. If you chose security then sit in your union jobs and continue whining and complaining. The unions will continue to rip off their members and protect the under performers. The Democrats are no less thieves than the Republicans. It is is a shame that lumpin proletariat strictly vote the party line rather than for the best candidate.
Peter Goslett June 29, 2012 at 12:43 pm
Max: Do you consider the best candidate the one that instituted "Romney care?" and then flip-flopped away from it so that he could get the support of the Superpacs? Or the one who vowed to repeal the Health Care Act on his first day in office when he would have to muster at least 60 Senate votes to even begin the repeal process? Or is the man who made such a great decision to put his dog on the roof of his car for a ten-hour trip with one stop, to gas up and wash the excrement that his poor, frightened dog let out while in the roof-top crate your great candidate?
Ruth June 29, 2012 at 01:17 pm
They rich take risks with other people's money, not their own. As I said before -- they risk nothing. They loose billions that are not theirs but continue to draw obscene salaries. We have seen the taxes of corporations and the rich continue to decline because the republicans told us the effects would "trickle down" to the rest of us. It's been over 30 years. Nothing has trickled down but more poverty, bankruptcy and the loss of the American Dream.
max June 29, 2012 at 01:46 pm
The small business owner the one who is the back bone of the economy risked his own limited assets to start his or her business. The American Dream still is available to those that that are willing to strive for it. People risk their lives every day trying to get to this " terrible" system that we have. You had Schumer and Franck watching the banks they did one hell of a job. Keep sitting with your hands out waiting for the government to drop a few coins. Immigrants come to this country work extmenly hard build a business and pass the complainers by. They buy the big homes and fancy cars and send their children to the best schools proving it can be done in less than a generation.
max June 30, 2012 at 11:07 am
Arthur your proctologist just called they found your head. Get your facts and grammar correct. We planned and carried out 9/11???? Your personal attacks are reprehensible. You evoke Hitler shame on you!
Arthur J caputo June 30, 2012 at 11:16 am
Typical dumb and stupid republican supporter with the personal attacks. Nano thermite doesn't lie. Bush and Cheney testifying TOGETHER ,afraid to get their lying stories crossed.Cheney ,standing down the NORAD jet interceptors. Building #7 falling by itself? Your brain surgeon called and said he didn't find a brain in your skull. By the way ,give Bush a call and ask him where the missing 7 billion dollars are in Iraq.Oh, don't forget to vote for Romney and the republicans so our treasury can be plundered again .thanks to people like you.
Arthur J caputo June 30, 2012 at 11:19 am
Tell it like it is ,Ruth . Maybe some truth will get though to the ignorant.
max June 30, 2012 at 12:27 pm
Paranoia seems to run deep. Try therapy. You are the one that initiated the personal attack. Perhaps it is is early onset dementia. It that case I can't hold you accountable.
Ruth June 30, 2012 at 02:27 pm
Max . Grow up, although when logic and reason fail as in your case, personal attacks have to suffice keep watching Fox news, reading the Post and voting against your own self interest. You have no one to blame for the state of our economy but yourself
Stuart Hersh June 30, 2012 at 02:59 pm
I actually feel sorry for Max. His thinking process is so limited. He is totally unable to provide evidence for anything he says and feels he must reduce everything to an attack on others. I truly hope he seeks help. And I don't mean that as an attack. I mean it as a sincere attempt to provide aid for him. He needs it so badly.
Stuart Hersh June 30, 2012 at 03:01 pm
By the way, Max. If you have any respect at all for majority opinions, take a look at the results of the survey that generated all of your "hatespeak".
max June 30, 2012 at 03:14 pm
I have no problem with the economy. I made my way in life and did not wait for hand outs. Because someone does not agree with you you tell them to grow up? Look at Arthurs irrational conclusions. He sides with the terrorists who claim 9/11 was an American operation. Go back and look at his statements it was not personal until he chose to make it so . Logic and reason are correct only when they support you point of view?? When some one does not agree with your point of view they are called uneducated and ignorant. AND WHAT MAKES YOU ALL JUMP TO THE CONCLUSION THAT I AM A REPUBLICAN? I guess you all want a one party system so that you can all walk in lock step from the crib to the crypt.
Stuart Hersh June 30, 2012 at 03:17 pm
I rest my case, Max.
Jo Jo June 30, 2012 at 03:22 pm
A large number of people inherit their wealth. Others have great ideas that take off, and some work hard for the money. Then there are those who steal, embezzle, commit fraud, and step on others to attain their wealth. I don't begrudge the rich, but I dislike the greedy. It used to be that corporations that made a 10% profit were considered successful. Now they want 100%+ profit, and they downsize, limit healthcare, pensions, sick pay, etc. for their employees in order to get it. You talk about under-performers in unions. What about CEOs that fail their companies and walk off with millions of dollars in retirement benefits, severance pay, and other perks while the rest of the employees lose everything. Now that's a rip-off.
Jo Jo June 30, 2012 at 03:27 pm
You forgot the periods after "called" and "Hitler". It should read "facts and grammar [straight], not "correct", which is awkward. You don't "get facts correct" or "get grammar correct".
max June 30, 2012 at 04:02 pm
I guess if you wait long enough you will see everything. Now we have bigoted liberals. I guess that is an oxymoron.
Phil Konigsberg June 30, 2012 at 05:31 pm
This was an interesting stream of comments to read (I am behind reading emails for a day or two) until I got to the ones that started getting personal. Let's refrain from personal attacks for everyone. I think the readership from Bayside/Bay Terrace don't appreciate when public comments start to get personal.
B/t//w, Peter - I miss not seeing/talking with you at meetings.
Peter Goslett July 2, 2012 at 01:41 pm
Thanks for the kind words, Phil. I sometimes miss those meetings, but my plate is so full now that I don't regret not going to them too much. I do iss the interactions with people like you.
Peter Goslett July 2, 2012 at 01:42 pm
