Cuomo to Address State of the State: Report

Legislative redistricting and expanding casino gambling likely to be featured topics.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo will be delivering his annual State of the State address Wednesday afternoon, with the discussion likely to center on legislative redistricting and the possible expansion of legalized casino gambling, NY1 reports

Under the umbrella of legislative redistricting falls the issue of increasing the size of the State Senate, potentially raising the number of districts to 63. The move would be a boon for Republicans, Democrats say.

"Well, what the Senate Republicans are now proposing just confirms everyone's worst fears about the unfairness of the redistricting process," State Sen. Michael Gianaris, D-Queens, told NY1. "Currently, what they are proposing is tearing up the state constitution and submitting an illegal plan just so they can maintain their political power."

The question of whether the state should expand casino gambling as a means of generating revenue is equally divisive. While the recently opened in Ozone Park has proved wildly popular, it's also drawn sharp criticism from residents who could do without a casino planted in their backyards.

The State of the State address will be broadcast at 1:30 p.m.
