Concannon to Challenge Avella for His Seat

Retired NYPD captain and former adviser to Mayor Giuliani officially steps into the race.

A retired NYPD captain and former advisor to Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has officially kicked off a campaign to challenge state Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, for his seat.

will take on Avella in the race for the 11th Senate District.

The Republican contender said his campaign will focus on working towards smaller government and lower taxes.

"I've lived in this district my whole life and I see that it has suffered over the past two years," he said. "I'm running on a platform of smaller, more effective government. We need to reduce taxes and reduce unnecessarily burdensome government regulation. We also need to fight to reduce crime and return to a safer city."

Concannon, who lives in Bellerose, served with the city's Police Department for 25 years.
