Comrie Wants New Subway in Queens: Report

In Borough President bid, Comrie seeks big ideas.

How about another subway in the city's largest borough?

That's one idea proposed by City Councilman Leroy Comrie in his official campaign kick-off, according to the New York Daily News.

Comrie is running against several other candidates for the opening Queens Borough President's seat, and his biggest — and most unlikely — suggestion involves adding more train lines connecting Queens and Manhattan.

According to the paper, Comrie said that an additional train line makes sense in the borough, considering how crowded the F and E lines have become.

There are also areas in central Queens, like Middle Village, that have only very difficult train access, with walks to the closest station in excess of 15-20 minutes.

Running against the wealthy Peter Vallone, Jr., party choice Melinda Katz, and perennial good-government candidate Tony Avella, it seems like Comrie is trying to stake out the "big idea" ground in his bid for the office.

What do you think of the idea? And if there was a new line, where would it run? Let us know in the comments.
