Comrie Drops Out of Race for Queens Borough President

NY1 says Comrie cites personal reasons in BP race exit.

City Councilman Leroy Comrie, D-St. Albans, has ended his bid for Queens Borough President, according to NY1.

The council member was vying to replace Helen Marshall before he called it quits, citing personal reasons.
He had been endorsed earlier this month by former mayor David Dinkins.

Comrie joins state Sen. Jose Peralta in the dustbin of Queens political history, leaving just three Democrats vying for the nomination in the fall primary.

Comrie struggled to raise money from the outset of the race even when it was still possible to grab the borough's Democratic nod, which was eventually given to former state Assemblywoman Melinda Katz.

Katz will now face off against Councilman Peter Vallone, Jr., D-Astoria, and state Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, in the race, with Vallone the runaway money leader thus far.
