City Digitizes Election Vote Totals
The new process promises faster and more accurate voting results.
This week, the New York City Board of Elections approved a new digital process of reporting election-night vote totals that promises faster and more accurate results, according to the New York Times.
Under the new procedure, at the end of the election night, police officers will bring memory sticks from each ballot scanner back to the police precincts, where the digital information will be handed over to Board of Elections staff members, who will upload the results and transmit the data back to the police department, the Times says.
Previously, police officers entered all of the information into a computer system themselves.
