City Council to Vote Today on Muni Meter Bill

Legislation would require meters to be deactivated during hours when parking rules are not in effect.

The City Council is expected to vote Wednesday on a bill that would force Muni Meters in the five boroughs to be deactivated when parking rules are not in effect.

Under the legislation, the meters would not be activated during hours when parking rules do not apply or when receipt paper is not available.

Currently, drivers cannot get refunds if they deposit money when a payment is not required.

The bill calls for the city's 1,300 meters to only accept cash when drivers are required to pay.
