Bay Terrace to Unveil 'Declaration of Independence'

BTCA to wants to be annexed by Community Board 11.

The Bay Terrace Community Alliance Wednesday announced their intention to make public a "Declaration of Independence" from Community Board 7.

The BTCA on Dec. 8 will present the "preamble" to their petition to join CB11 during their 7:30 pm at the .

"We were ripped from the fabric of Bayside, but all our ties — geographic, governmental, housing ties— we've always considered [Bay Terrace] part of Bayside," said Schreiber.

The civic group has been to join CB11 in large part because that designation also allows them to be under the jurisdication of the , which is half the distance from their neighborhood as the 107 Precinct, which now protects them, according to Schreiber.

The group is looking to the release of census numbers to grant further justification for the move.

"A Community Board can't have more than 250,000 [people], according to the City Charter," said Schreiber.

"CB 7 was really close last census when the numbers came out, and if they're over that 250,000 number, then there automatically has to be a change," he added.

The group intends to submit the document to Department of City Planning.
