Bell Blvd. To Be Paved

The commercial district's main thoroughfare will be restored.

Bell Blvd. is set to be a smooth ride once again.

The Department of Transportation has agreed to pave Bell Blvd. in August, following a particularly  that left ice to expand and create potholes all over the outer-boroughs.

Milling and paving between Northern Blvd. and 35th Ave. will be done at night, to minimize the impact on businesses and residents, according to Councilman Dan Halloran, R-Whitestone.

“This project will make life better for the countless businesses of all stripes on Bell Blvd. and the thousands of New Yorkers who traverse this street every day for work and play,” said Halloran, adding, “I thank Commissioner McCarthy for her expeditious and timely response, as well as her commitment and dedication to the community in getting this major project underway nearly a year earlier than originally projected despite the tough budget constraints.”

A Thursday press conference was announced at 1p.m. Wednesday by State Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside about the road. But after hearing 12 hours late that Councilman Dan Halloran, R-Whitestone, had already announced the DOT's commitment to paving the road in August, Avella's office cancelled it.
