Bayside Historical Society to Host Forum for Halloran's Council Seat

Themes to be discussed at the forum will include conservation and preservation.

The Bayside Historical Society will host a candidates forum for the race for Councilman Dan Halloran’s seat on Aug. 19

The forum, which will begin at 7 p.m., will primarily focus on themes of conservation and preservation.

All six candidates in the race have agreed to participate in the forum. Contenders for the seat include Douglaston attorney Dennis Saffran, former state Assemblyman John Duane, long-time community activist Paul Graziano, Flushing attorney Paul Vallone, former Halloran chief of staff Chrissy Voskerichian and Austin Shafran, formerly of Empire State Development.

The forum is being co-sponsored by the New York League of Conservation Voters and the Historic Districts Council.

It will be held at the Bayside Historical Society’s headquarters, located at 208 Totten Ave. in Fort Totten.

There will be two other candidates forums for the race for Halloran’s seat this month.

The Minkwon Center for Community Action will hold its event on Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. in Flushing’s Temple Beth Sholom, located at 171-39 Northern Blvd.

And the Bay Terrace Community Alliance will host a forum at 7 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the Bay Terrace Jewish Center, located at 13-00 209th St. in Bayside.
