Northeast Queens Resident Fought with 4th Infantry Division on D-Day

State Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, will commemorate Memorial Day next week by honoring a World War II veteran from his district who took part in the invasion of Normandy.

The veteran, who is currently the post commander for the Whitestone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4787, was part of the 4th Infantry Division, which liberated St. Mere Eglise and Paris as well as a number of towns in Belgium.
