Avella Endorses Graziano for City Council

State senator throws weight behind community activist in race for Halloran's seat.

State Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, endorsed long-time community activist and urban planning consultant Paul Graziano in the race for Councilman Dan Halloran's seat.

Avella cited Graziano's experience dealing with zoning, landmarking and preservation issues in his decision.

"He knows the process, he knows city government, he knows the community - I can't think of anybody else, personally, to represent this Council district," Avella said.

Graziano will face off in September's Democratic primary against Flushing attorney Paul Vallone, former state Assemblyman John Duane, former Halloran chief of staff Chrissy Voskerichian and Austin Shafran, who formerly worked for Empire State Development.
