Avella, Braunstein Honor Deepdale Gardens with Resolution

Legislators celebrate co-op's 60th anniversary.

State Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, and state Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, D-Bayside, presented a resolution this past weekend to Deepdale Gardens to honor the co-op's 60th anniversary.

The co-op, which was incorporated in the 1950's, was the largest federally sponsored housing cooperative built in the United States designed as affordable housing for World War II veterans and their families.

It is situated on 60 acres of land and is comprised of 69 buildings containing 1,396 garden style apartments.

The self-managed residential community is located along Marathon Parkway in Little Neck.
