Ackerman Endorses Vallone in Race for Halloran's Seat

Former congressman gives the nod to Flushing attorney's Council bid.

Former U.S. Rep. Gary Ackerman has thrown his weight behind Flushing attorney Paul Vallone in the race for Councilman Dan Halloran’s seat.

Vallone, who recently bested four opponents in the Democratic primary for the seat, picked up the nod from the former congressman on Thursday morning.

“I know the people and the neighborhoods of northeast Queens like the back of my hand, which is why I know Paul Vallone is the right choice to help preserve our precious quality of life and protect the middle class families who live here,” Ackerman said.

Vallone, who is the brother of Councilman Peter Vallone Jr., had recently picked up endorsements from former state Assemblyman John Duane, against whom he faced off in the September primary, and Councilman Peter Koo, D-Flushing.

He will be up against Republican Dennis Saffran, a Douglaston attorney, in the Nov. 5 general election.
