A Seventh Grader is Your New City Council Member

For one day only, 7th grader Max Gallagher is taking the reins from Councilman Mark Weprin.

Max Gallagher may only be in 7th grade, but Councilman Mark Weprin, D-Oakland Gardens, thinks he's ready to take over his job. At least for today.

As the winner of Weprin's annual "Council Member for a Day" essay contest, Gallagher, who lives in Holliswood, is rewarded with not with the usual monetary prize or trip to Disney World, but a day in the office of a New York City council member, complete with meetings, press conferences and interacting with elected officials.

His duties also include commanding Weprin's Twitter feed, so stay tuned to that here to track Gallagher's hijinks.
