Youths Accused in Shooting of Douglaston Man to Return to Court on May 17

Little Neck's Caleb Ahn and Astoria's Karma Sonam Have Not Been Indicted At This Time

An 16-year-old from Little Neck and another Queens teenager accused of shooting a 28-year-old Douglaston man in Flushing last month will return to court on May 17, a spokeswoman for the Queens district attorney said.

Caleb Ahn, of Little Neck, and Karma Sonam, 16, of Astoria, are alleged to have shot Douglaston’s Bernard Cho on Northern Boulevard on March 14, Queens DA Richard Brown said.

The defendants, who have not been indicted at this time, and the victim were allegedly negotiating the purchase of an unspecified amount of marijuana, the DA said.

Both defendants have been charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and robbery, according to the criminal complaint.

Ahn and Sonam could face up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted, the DA said.

A second man, who has not been identified, was struck by a bullet in the back during the incident. He was treated at Booth Memorial Hospital and listed in stable condition, the DA said.
