Where’s the Ticket Blitz?

Instead of blitzing, cops are blowing off ticket-writing, reports The Post.

A slowdown by recalcitrant cops is causing the city to miss out on at least $1 million per week in ticket revenue, reports the NY Post.

Traffic officers were reportedly told that they would lose vacation days—as many as ten— if they fail to back up tickets with proper paperwork. The tactic may be working, as supervisors are reportedly considering scaling back the amount of days off imperiled by the policy.

Moving and parking violations were 12,000 fewer during the week of July 25 to July 31, compared to the same time last year.

"This is more than a matter of dollars and cents; this is a matter of life and death," said Paul Steely White, the executive director of Transportation Alternatives, a group that aims to reclaim City streets from the automobile. "When officers don't enforce the law, it gives drivers the clear signal to flaunt it," he added.

Supervisors have threatened to go on traffic duty with officers to observe ticketing, and be sure cops aren’t going easy on their own friends.
