Vandal Etches Tag on Bell Boulevard Business Windows

As many as 10 store owners found the tag 'Flour' etched onto their windows last weekend.

More than 10 businesses along Bell Boulevard were tagged last weekend with the word “flour” etched onto the windows, store owners along the Bayside shopping strip said.

Most of the store owners said they believed the vandal struck late at night on Oct. 20 or early in the morning on Oct. 21.

“On Saturday when we closed, it wasn’t there,” said Dina Amatuccio, manager of Cascarino’s. “But it was on Sunday when we opened. The name ‘Flour’ was etched onto our glass window. I think it somebody’s tag name.”

The tag ‘Flour’ was etched onto the windows and that graffiti was also on several lamp posts along Bell Boulevard.

A spokesman for the 111th Precinct said more than 10 businesses were hit by the vandal and that one of the stores had previously been tagged in September.

He said he believes one of the store's cameras might have caught the vandal on tape.

"Hopefully, we can catch the culprit, so they can be held responsible - both legally and financially," the spokesman said.

State Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, said representatives from his office spotted at least 14 businesses that had been vandalized.

"It could cost between $500 to a $1,000 to replace one of these big store windows," the senator said.

Stores that were vandalized included Chase Bank, Love My Shoes, Michael’s Place and Asian Fusion.
