Teen Who Ran on Field During All-Star Game Faces Jailtime

Up to one year and a fine for kid who indulged Twitter stunt.

The teenager who ran onto the field during Tuesday night's All-Star Game in Flushing might be getting more than just the thousands of Twitter followers he earned with the stunt.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown announced the had been charged with criminal trespass and remaining on the playing area of a major sporting event. He faces as much as a year in jail and a $5,000 fine.

The second charge is the result of a decade-old law passed by the New York City Council after Calvin Klein stepped onto the court at Madison Square Garden to exchange words with former Knick Latrell Sprewell.

The All-Star Game incident reportedly unfolded after the rambunctious teen tweeted that he would run onto the field if he got 1,000 retweets from his Twitter profile.

It's a repeat of a stunt that occurred at the College World Series just a few weeks before. The young woman involved in that incident actually recorded and posted a video to Twitter's Vine service as her run was happening.

Brown noted that while the young man in this case didn't have any nefarious purpose aside from a bad case of narcism, things could have taken an ugly turn.

"There is no such thing as being too careful," Brown said in a statement. "Which is why my office and the operators of the various sports arenas in Queens County have zero tolerance for spectators who fail to conduct themselves responsibly at sporting events."
