Tabone Resigns as Queens GOP Vice Chairman: Report

Additionally, Councilman Halloran and state Sen. Smith have been stripped of their committee assignments.

Vince Tabone has resigned as vice chairman of the Queens County Republican Party following his Tuesday arrest in an alleged scheme to rig the mayoral election, NY 1 reported.

Also netted in the bust were state Sen. Malcolm Smith, D-Jamaica, and Councilman Dan Halloran, R-Whitestone.

Tabone, a long-time operative in the Queens Republican Party and a former state Assembly candidate, is accused of accepting $25,000 in bribes for helping Smith appear on the ballot for the Republican mayoral primary.

Halloran, who released a statement on Wednesday denying the charges, was allegedly promised a top administrative job in a Smith administration and was also accused of exchanging member item money for campaign contributions.

Both Smith and Halloran were stripped of their committee assignments after being arrested.
