Stabbing Suspect Shot Near Cardozo

A man who had stabbed a woman, and himself was shot and killed by police last night.

An emotionally disturbed man was shot and killed by police on Thursday night, after refusing to drop a knife he had used to stab himself and a woman, according to an NYPD spokesman.

Police received a call at around 8:30p.m. to 61-47 223 Place, just blocks from Cardozo High School campus, about a suicidal man who was stabbing himself in a front courtyard. When officers arrived, they saw that a 51-year-old female victim had been stabbed in the neck and chest as well.

Police told the suspect to drop the knife. When he refused, he was shot once in the chest.

Both the victim and suspect were taken to North Shore Hospital, where an NYPD spokesman said the victim is in critical condition, and the suspect was pronounced dead on arrival.

Guy with a knife vs. Cops with guns- Why not shoot him the guy in the knee?

Cops are taught that if they shoot their guns it has to be because their was no other option. If you only have to shoot the perp in the knee than their must have been other options that don't involve a gun. So if you're going to shoot, it better be because you have to kill, or If you shoot, kill. Someone needs to revise protocols.

Easy to 2nd guess when you are sitting safe and logical at your computer. How do you know the "crazed" man does not have a gun or can throw the knife and kill someone else? You walk into a situation and see a woman stabbed and the man stabbing himself...maybe you should offer him a latte and have a logical talk first!

This isn't T.V. It's real life. To shoot someone in the knee is not easy. What's easier to shoot shoulder to hips or a knee that's around 2-3 inches. Go to a shooting range and try it out. See how well you do. Cops shoot to stop not to kill.
