An emotionally disturbed man was shot and killed by police on Thursday night, after refusing to drop a knife he had used to stab himself and a woman, according to an NYPD spokesman.
Police received a call at around 8:30p.m. to 61-47 223 Place, just blocks from Cardozo High School campus, about a suicidal man who was stabbing himself in a front courtyard. When officers arrived, they saw that a 51-year-old female victim had been stabbed in the neck and chest as well.
Police told the suspect to drop the knife. When he refused, he was shot once in the chest.
Both the victim and suspect were taken to North Shore Hospital, where an NYPD spokesman said the victim is in critical condition, and the suspect was pronounced dead on arrival.
