Report: Fairway Will Donate to Fund for Slain NYPD Officer's Family

Grocery chain's Douglaston store will give 10 percent of profits earned between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Jan. 5 to scholarship fund.

will donate a portion of its profits made this Thursday at its Douglaston store to a college scholarship for the daughters of a city police officer who was killed last month after he responded to a Brooklyn robbery, the Daily News reported.

The grocery chain will donate 10 percent of the profits made between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Jan. 5 at its Douglaston, Red Hook and Plainview, L.I. stores to the New York City Police Department’s Peter Figoski Scholarship Fund.

“What Officer Figoski did to save other lives was heroism as its finest,” Fairway CEO Howard Glickberg told the Daily News. “To be able to honor this heroism by participating in some small way to the well-being of his family is a privilege for all of us at Fairway.”

Figoski was the father of four daughters who were between the ages of 14 and 20 years.
