Power Outage Hits Little Neck

Around 70 residents were left without power Thursday morning.

Update, 9:52 a.m.: Con-Edison is reporting that power has been fully restored to the area. The last resident saw their power flick back on just before 9 a.m.

Acccording to Con-Edison spokesman Chris Olert, the outage was caused after an unknown object slammed into a service pole on Northern Blvd. and 247th St. sometime during the night, igniting a wire that fed electricity to a house on 248th St.

The burning wire tripped a transformer, causing an outage that impacted more than 70 residents. Olert said power was fully restored by 8:45 a.m., just over an hour after the initial report was received.

Original story: 9:07 a.m.: Roughly 70 Little Neck residents were left without power Thursday morning, and power company Con-Edison remains on the scene attempting to restore it.

Con-Edison spokesman Chris Olert said the outage initially occurred around 7:25 a.m., impacting the cluster of houses near 247th Street & 43rd Avenue.

Olert said workers were on the scene within five minutes after the outage was reported. An analysis to determine the cause of the outage will be completed after power is restored.

Olert said he does not yet have an estimate as to when power will be fully restored to the area.
