Mid-afternoon Burglary in Bayside's Crime Corridor

Home struck on Monday in what police say is a vulnerable area

A home was burglarized this week in the vicinity of the Westbound LIE ramp, near 219th and 218th Streets, according to police sources.

Police on Monday afternoon were combing the area of 218th St. near 58th Ave. to find the perpetrator of the robbery, which took place nearby at approximately 3p.m. The thief—or thieves—were not caught.

The area is prime territory for burglars, attractive because the LIE ramp offers an easy getaway, police sources said.

Locals of the neighborhood are aware of the home invasion situation.

One resident of 218th St., who identified himself only as “Alan,” said his home was struck last year by burglars. To fortify against intruders, he has since installed gates and window bars.
