D.A. Richard Brown said he was shocked by what could allegedly amount to a one-man crime spree.

“Six weeks ago, a livery cab driver who was simply trying to make extra money for the holidays was held up at gunpoint in South Ozone Park. A struggle ensued and he was shot multiple times, leaving him seriously wounded and hospitalized to this day. Today, we have charged the alleged shooter in that incident with six additional robberies dating back to last summer,” Brown said.

Brown said further that the livery cab driver robberies, one of which ended violently, were especially vexing.

“I am particularly troubled by the livery cab robberies in one of which the driver was seriously injured,” Brown said. “These cases remind us of the dangers faced by taxi and livery drivers and the senseless gun violence that surrounds us. These cases will be vigorously prosecuted.”

During the incident for which Peace was originally arrested, he allegedly tried to rob cab driver Trevor Bell of the cash from a night’s work, and shot Bell in the hand, neck, and legs.

Bell was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he is still hospitalized.

At the arraignment, Peace was ultimately charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and multiple counts of armed robbery and grand larceny.

Peace’s next court date is set for Jan. 31. His bond was set at $2 million.
