High-Speed Crash On Horace Harding Expressway

One elderly passenger injured in afternoon accident in Little Neck

A black Audi going at least 60 miles per hour headed eastbound on the Horace Harding Expressway slammed into a blue Nissan Maxima at approximately 1 p.m. Saturday, sending one passenger to the hospital, according to witnesses at the scene.

"The black car literally pushed the blue car up the street," said one eyewitness, Bernadette Mohr, a front desk employee at who was taking a smoke break when the accident occurred. "I instantly ran over to see if everyone was O.K."

According to Mohr, the occupants of the blue Nissan had slowed down to turn into the Duane Reade parking lot when the an Audi sport car crashed into their vehicle from behind on Horace Harding, just east of Marathon Parkway.

"The Audi just came out of nowhere," Mohr said.

An ambulance transported the elderly woman riding in the Nissan to the hospital with unknown injuries.

According to witnesses gathered in front of the busy shopping plaza, which includes an Asian grocer and restaurant, and , this congested stretch of roadway snaking and feeding into the Long Island Expressway was particularly hazardous for motorists and pedestrians alike.

"It's like the Indy 500 here," said an Angel Tips Salon customer, who did not want to be identified.
