Fire, Apparent Murder and Attempted Suicide Reported at 214th Place

Investigators believe a man tried to hang himself after killing his girlfriend.

Firefighters were called to a fire apparently set to cover up a murder and attempted suicide in Bayside on Wednesday night, according to CBS News.

Responding to a blaze at 214th Place and 39th Ave., firemen noticed a woman who was cut laying in the bed of a basement apartment at around 7:30 p.m.

“It was a small fire in the kitchen area and they opened a bedroom door and found a female lying on the bed, apparently cut to some degree,” Queens District Attorney Richard Brown reportedly said.

A man, reportedly the woman’s boyfriend, was found trying to hang himself in a closet. The woman died of her injuries.

The motive is unknown, but the couple has reportedly been arguing so fiercely that their landlord tried to evict them. The landlord also claimed the stabbed woman had a gambling problem. The fire is under investigation as being intentionally set as part of a cover-up, officials said.

The suspect is in critical condition, and is being investigated for setting the fire as part of a cover up.

This is the second alleged instance of a stabbing and attempted suicide that . The NYPD announced last week that the citywide.
