FDNY Still Investigating Cause of Douglas Manor Fire

Blaze destroyed home on Douglaston Parkway, but no injuries were reported.

FDNY officials said they are still investigating a Tuesday night fire that destroyed a Douglas Manor home.

The home, which is a few doors down from the on Douglaston Parkway, was unoccupied at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported, a spokesman for the city's Fire Department said.

NY 1 reported that the blaze was caused by welding work, but the FDNY spokesman said the incident was still under investigation and that no cause for the three-alarm fire had yet been determined.

"There was a large extension on the house for an extended period of time," said Douglas Montgomery, a local realtor. "The fire was fast and insane. Some of the neighbors heard explosions."

James McCann, who lives next door to the burned house, said an adjuster will come tomorrow to assess damages to his home.

"A piece of it got under my roof, so the paint is blistered on that side of the house," he said.
