The New York Police Department's Harbor Patrol and a fire rescue team pulled the body of a man on Saturday from the waters of Little Neck Bay at Fort Totten, near Bayside.
Engine 72, based in Throgs Neck in The Bronx, responded to the scene at 11:44 a.m. after receiving a report of a man falling into the water from the Throgs Neck Bridge near the Queens shoreline, fire officials said.
By noontime, rescuers pulled the victim out of the water near the Fire Dock at Fort Totten in front of dozens of onlookers enjoying an unseasonably-warm autumn afternoon.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said.
"I turned away when they brought him out," said Astoria resident Paul Howard, on the shoreline near where the victim was pulled out of the water. "It's so sad."
The victim has not been identified. A cause of death has not been determined, fire officials said.
