Dead Body Found In Oakland Lake Has Been Identified

The body of a man found floating in Oakland Lake was a student at QCC.

The young man whose body took his own life, a spokesman for the 111th Precinct said on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old, who was discovered shortly after 8a.m. on Monday, has been identified as a Queensborough Community College student. In sensitivity to his family, his name is being withheld.

Police did not confirm whether the death was due to drowning, but said on Monday that there were on the body.

"Oakland Lake is a place of idylic serenity and so one hopes this provides some comfort to the man's surviving family," said Vince Tabone, and member of the Friends of Oakland Lake Group.
