Crime Up Four Percent in December, One Percent for Year in 111th Precinct

The number of incidents was up in three of the seven major crime categories for the year.

Crime was up 11 percent during the third week of December and rose one percent for the year overall in the 111th Precinct, according to police statistics.

There were no murders, felony assaults or rapes in the precinct between Dec. 16 and 22, whereas one rape was reported during the same period of time in 2012.

A total seven grand larceny incidents were reported by the precinct in December’s third week, which was the same amount during this week in 2012.

And robbery was down slightly from five incidents during the third week of December 2012 to four incidents during the same week this year.

But burglary was on the rise this month. Four incidents were reported during the third week of the month, whereas only one occurred during the same week in 2012.

Overall crime for the year was up 1.7 percent.

There were no murders in 2013 and rape was down to three incidents from six incidents in 2012.

Burglary dropped from 240 incidents in 2012 to 224 incidents this year, while grand larceny auto fell from 97 stolen cars last year to 74 in 2013.

Robbery was up just slightly, from 71 incidents in 2012 to 72 incidents during the past 12 months.

But felony assault was on the rise, from 59 incidents last year to 63 incidents in 2013.

And grand larceny had the greatest increase. Last year, the precinct reported 338 incidents, while a total 441 incidents occurred in 2013.

The precinct covers Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck.
