Crime Drops Seven Percent in 111th Precinct in March

But overall crime for the year is up three percent, according to police statistics.

Crime dipped seven percent in March in the 111th Precinct as the number of incidents in three of the seven major crime categories dropped, according to police statistics.

However, overall crime is up three percent in the precinct for the year so far.

There were no murders or rapes during the past month. During the same period of time in 2012, there was one rape.

The number of burglaries went down from 16 incidents in March 2012 to 13 incidents during the same period of time this year.

And the number of grand larceny auto incidents dropped slightly from six in March 2012 to five during the past month, while grand larceny incidents fell from 35 incidents to 33 incidents.

But felony assaults were up from six incidents at this time last year to seven in March 2013. And there were five robberies this past month as opposed to four incidents in March 2012.

The precinct’s statistics only covered the month through March 17.

For the year, there have been no rapes or murders and the number of grand larceny and grand larceny auto incidents are down. But the number of burglaries, robberies and felony assaults are on the rise.

The 111th Precinct covers Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck.
