Crime Drops 17 Percent in May in 111th Precinct

According to police statistics, incidents are down in most of the major seven crime categories with the exception of burglaries.

Crime dropped a whopping 17 percent in May in the 111th Precinct with significant decreases in three of the seven major crime categories.  

According to police statistics, overall crime for the year was down seven percent in the precinct, which covers Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck.  

There were no murders or rapes in the precinct during the past month. And the number of robberies fell 54 percent with five incidents reported as opposed to 11 incidents during the same period of time in 2012.  

Felony assaults were down from six incidents during May 2012 to only one during the past month.  

The number of grand larcenies dropped from 34 incidents in May 2012 to 26 incidents during the past month.  

Grand larceny auto was slightly up this past month with six incidents reported as opposed to five incidents in May 2012.  

However, burglaries were on the rise in the precinct with 15 incidents in May. Last year, only eight incidents had been reported during that same amount of time.  

Burglary is the one category in the precinct that has seen a large increase this year so far. At this point in 2012, the precinct had reported 69 incidents. In 2013, there have been 83 burglaries.
