Crime Down Seven Percent in June in 111th Precinct

The number of grand larceny and grand larceny auto incidents up this month.

Crime dropped slightly during the past month, despite increases in two of the seven major crime categories, according to police statistics.

As of June 24, overall two percent. But the number of incidents in June is down seven percent from reported crimes during the same period in 2011.

There were no murders or rapes in the precinct during the past month and the number of robberies fell from 13 incidents in June of 2011 to eight this past month, representing a 61 percent decline.

Four felony assaults were reported last month, which was the same number of incidents during the same period of time in 2011.

And the number of burglaries dropped from 18 incidents in June of 2011 to 15 last month.

But the number of grand larceny incidents rose slightly from 24 incidents last year to 28 in June 2012.

And grand larceny auto incidents were also up slightly from five in June of 2011 to seven this year.

In 2012, the number of felony assaults, grand larceny and grand larceny auto incidents are up from last year’s numbers at the year’s halfway point.

The number of rapes is the same as last year, but the number of murders, robberies and burglaries has dropped.

The 111th Precinct covers Douglaston, Little Neck and Bayside.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
