Cigarettes Land Man in Criminal Court

Smoking is an expensive habit.

A man who thought he would make out with $709 in smokes ended up on the hook for $3,800 in bail.

Richard Johnson pled guilty last week to one count of petit larceny, after allegedly using two credits cards not in his name at Norbell Service Station on Bell Blvd.

The cards belonged to a Manhattan woman, Camilla Twesselman, whose American Express and Mastercards were missing after she was dropped off by a cab near the around midnight on Oct. 17, according to the Queens District Attorney.

Less than an hour later, Johnson allegedly approached a cashier with Twesselman's American Express card, and bought two cartons of cigarettes, telling the clerk she was a friend, and signing his own signature.

Later in the evening he returned with the other card to buy more cigs, but it was declined.

Johnson told a detective that he bought one of the credit cards from a female for $50, according to the DAs office. He has not yet posted bail, according to the New York State Unified Court System.
