Captain Ng: Zero Tolerance for Fireworks, No Excuses

111th Precinct prepares to combat illegal fireworks.

A meeting was held at the 111th precinct this morning during which Captain Tommy Ng expressed plans for a crackdown on illegal fireworks.

Sales and displays of illegal fireworks are not new to the neighborhood, said the Captain.

“We seize fireworks every year, and we will be very aggressive,” he added.

An increase in undercover units and uniformed officers will be patrolling specific neighborhoods.

By tracking last year’s 311 complaints, the crackdown will focus on Francis Lewis Blvd to the Clearview Expressway between 25th to 35th Ave.

"We will have a sound truck listening for explosions, which will then be sent to the scene to broadcast a warning message to remind residents that fireworks are illegal," said Captain NG. 

An increase in DUI checkpoints is also planned help ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

Residents are encouraged to call 311 with tips and 911 to report a crime in progress.
