Bridge Painter Plunges From Throgs Neck: Report

John Massas, 35, is reportedly presumed dead after falling into the Long Island Sound.

A worker painting the Throgs Neck Bridge fell into the water, and presumably to his death on Friday morning, reports the Daily News.

John Massas, of the Bronx reportedly fell 140 feet as co-workers helplessly witnessed.

The 35-year-old Bronx man with a wife, and 13-year-old daughter, was a unioned employee of El Sol Contracting & Construction Corp.

The company, which is based in Queens, has reportedly had previous safety violations, following the 2007 death of one of its employeers working on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

Coast Guard and NYPD boats have reportedly been searching the Sound for the mans remains.

"Hopefully we can learn from this tragedy and focus on creating additional safety measures that will prevent future accidents from occurring,” State Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, said in a statement.
