Bayside Fire Station May Be Closed

Queens could lose four firehouses

Information obtained by NY1 on Wednesday afternoon suggested that Engine 306 at 40-18 214th Place in Bayside will be one of 20 closed by the city later this year as a result of budget cuts.

In total, the city is preparing to shut down 20 firehouses, with 17 of those closures coming in the outer boroughs.

Eight houses are likely to be shut down in Brooklyn, while four will be lost in Queens, including one in the Rockaways, Sunnyside and Richmond Hill.

In a release earlier this month, Uniformed Firefighters Association of New York City President Steve Cassidy vowed to fight the closure of firehouses across the city.

"The UFA pledges to join city council members and community boards across every New York City neighborhood being threatened by Mayor Bloomberg with fire company closures," Cassidy said. "As we approach the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and as New York and our nation are on heightened alert for terrorist retaliation attacks, to close firehouses would be dangerous and self destructive."
