Update: Attempted Robbery at Atlantic Bank

Perps left a blow torch on the roof of the building, and spray painted a security camera.

Update: The would-be burglars did enter the bank from the roof, but did not successfully breach the vault, according to NYPD. A private security guard responding to the alarm witnessed four suspects fleeing the area. The investigation is still ongoing.



The Major Case Squad of the NYPD on Monday was on the scene of an attempted robbery of Atlantic Bank, at 196-21 Northern Blvd.

The heist was attempted at 1:45am on Monday.

Police found a blow torch on the roof, and other items on the premises they would not disclose. "These were professionals," said one investigator.

Detectives who viewed security footage of neighboring Darousos Gyro saw two men with ski masks using the restaurant's stairs, according to the manager, who declined to identify herself. The perpetrators had spray painted a camera located in the parking lot of Darousos, and fit a lid over it to avoid being filmed.

The restaurant's manager believes she heard the criminals crunching leaves in the back of her place when she left at 10:30 pm. "I thought it was critters, but then something else ran through my mind: what if there's somebody back here?" she said.
