Divorce is never easy, especially when children are involved.
With news all over on Katie Holmes filing for divorce from soon-to-be ex-husband, Tom Cruise, the coverage on what will happen to Suri Cruise seems to naturally follow.
The Huffington Post has reported that Holmes has filed for sole custody of her daughter, with a goal of "focusing on what's best for Suri at this time."
Speculation on the reason, not only for the divorce, but for Holmes's motive in filing for sole custody, is also front and center. From claims that scientology is to blame to rumors of a marriage contract between the couple, everyone has something to say about the high profile split.
Whatever the reason for the divorce, Holmes's act of filing for sole custody speaks tons of her relationship with Cruise at the moment. Whether or not it be due to her attempt to protect Suri from scientology, given her age, or the fact that she does not want her daughter moving from country to country with Cruise as he works is all speculation at this point.
The fact that does remain is that both Holmes and Cruise will have to find a middle ground for their daughter. While the courts will handle the logistics, Holmes and Cruise are connected in a way that a divorce cannot undo.
It's always unfortunate for a child to go through such a drastic change in family and home life, given that stability is one of the most important aspects to a healthy childhood.
A positive change, however, no matter how big, is always favorable when the best interest of the child is at heart.
