A Yahoo Problem: More Than Just Not Working From Home

Yahoo is still formidable on the internet but will that change?

A few months ago there was a big to do about the new Yahoo policy of not allowing its workers to work from home. Yahoo has been trying to right its ship for a while and I personally hope they do. That said, I wish they would have taken more seriously an issue I raised with them not long ago.

I have noticed for over a year when using Yahoo Mail that it is easier to delete a message from your inbox then from your spam folder. This should be the other way around. If you go to delete any email from your Spam folder, you will be prompted if you are sure. If you go to delete a message from your inbox, you can delete it without being prompted if you are sure. Note that I at one time used Yahoo as my main email account.  I still have my Yahoo account  but do not use it often.

I also have a Twitter account @mklubok and decided to mention this in a tweet to Yahoo.

Not one but two Yahoo twitter accounts responded. @YahooCare responded that deleting messages should be the same regardless of folder. Not necessarily and it should not be more difficult to delete a message from a spam folder than an inbox folder.  The second account was from @yahoomail. I wish I did not have to say it but it looked more like corporate speak. The site I was referred to looked like a black hole for feedback. I don’t believe I responded as I felt my thoughts were being marginalized.

Yahoo has 281 million registered users as of October 2012 which is the 3rd most worldwide behind Google and Hotmail (now Outlook). Also as of October 2012 Yahoo has the most registered users in the US with 77 million users. Google is 2nd with 69 million and I believe this gap is narrowing as Gmail gets more popular.  See link

I hope that Yahoo gets the message and starts listening to customers and potential customers. This is a company that still has a lot of potential and still is formidable on the internet.  eBizMBA.com shows Yahoo as the third most popular website behind Google and Facebook.  Marissa Mayer are you listening?
