Catch up on the week's top stories.

It was a quieter week for local news and most of the week’s top stories focused on this fall’s election.   

Former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner was believed to soon kick off a mayoral campaign and Patch provided a rundown on fundraising efforts in the race to replace Councilman Dan Halloran, R-Whitestone.   

And there was a brief update on the opening of Douglaston’s Smoking Aces Bistro.

Monday 
Smoking Aces Bistro is set to open in the former Strawberry’s Sports Grill site in Douglaston on June 1 – at least, according to local business owners. The bistro’s owner could not be reached for comment.   

Reviews in This Week at the Movies included “The Great Gatsby,” “The Iceman” and “Sightseers.”   

Tuesday 

State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic’s, D-Fresh Meadows, first bill passed in the state legislature. The legislation involves regulating the state’s conch and whelk population.   

Wednesday 
The United Federation of Teachers announced its annualscholarship dinner dance for District 26 later this month.   

Thursday 
Weiner was soon expected to launch his mayoral campaign. And Patch wrote about fundraising efforts in the race for Halloran’s seat.   

Friday 
This week’s Queens Eats recipe was bacon chicken. And the FAA agreed to form a committee with northeast Queens residents to discuss airplane noise.
