It was a very busy week for local news in Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck.   Councilman Dan Halloran, R-Whitestone, announced that he would not seek another term following his arrest in an alleged mayoral rigging scheme.  

The Queens County Republican Party quickly picked a replacement – Dennis Saffran – to endorse in the race for Halloran’s seat.  

And northeast Queens residents held another meeting to discuss ongoing airplane noise over Bayside.

Monday
U.S. Rep. Grace Meng, D-Flushing, announces the winners of her district art contest. Reviews in This Week at the Movies include “Pain and Gain,” “Mud” and “At Any Price.”  

Tuesday
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, D-Manhattan, announced that she would launch an ethics probe into Halloran’s alleged relationships with two former staffers.  

Wednesday
Crime dropped in the 111th Precinct in April. And Halloran announced that he would not seek another term in office.  

Thursday
P.S. 98 will host a summer chess camp for local youths.  

Friday
The Queens County GOP threw its weight behind Douglaston attorney Dennis Saffran in the race for Halloran’s seat. And northeast Queens residents met in Bayside to discuss airplane noise from a flight pattern leaving LaGuardia Airport.
