It was a busy week for news in northeast Queens.

Elected officials and residents discussed initiatives on how to combat airplane noise over Bayside and Douglaston resulting from a new flight pattern out of LaGuardia Airport.

St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children debuted the first phase of its $114 million renovation project. And the union representing the hospital’s workers held a protest in front of the facility, accusing St. Mary’s of not releasing all of its financial records during negotiations.

Monday

The Queens County Farm is hosting an apple festival and pumpkin picking in October. Rani nail salon reopens after fixing structural problems recently discovered by the city’s Department of Buildings, but a Long Island Rail Road staircase next to the property remains closed.

St. Mary’s unveils its new five-story facility that includes new rooms for its patients, equipment and a pavilion.

Wednesday

Bayside’s elected officials and local civic leaders say they expect to get some answers from the Federal Aviation Administration after a new flight pattern out of LaGuardia soon completes its test phase. A baby deer dies after it attempts to escape a fenced-in playground at Bayside High School in which it was trapped.

Thursday

U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, could be eyeing the chairmanship of the Queens County Republican Party, a position currently held by Phil Ragusa, according to a report.

Friday

This week’s Meet the Owner profile is Paradise Furniture’s Bruce Davis.

St. Mary's cuts the ribbon on its new facility. And the 1199-SEIU union holds a rally outside of St. Mary’s, accusing the hospital of not releasing all of its financial records during negotiations as well as not providing adequate resources for assisting the facility’s patients.
